EA and Respawn’s free-to-play Titanfall battle royale, Apex Legends, is out now on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A popular game that released somewhat unexpectedly, plenty of you out there are wondering what the Apex Legends age rating is. Read on to discover the Apex Legends ESRB rating and the Apex Legends PEGI rating. We’ll even help you to figure out if the game is suitable for children.
Apex Legends Age Rating | ESRB rating
The ESRB (age rating board throughout the USA) has awarded Apex Legends with a T for Teen rating on all platforms. The official description from the ESRB explains that “this is a first-person shooter in which players engage in squad-based battle royale-style combat across a large island. Players search for supplies and use machine guns, rifles, and explosives to shoot and kill enemies as the play area constantly shrinks.”
It’s standard for a shooting game to be awarded at least a Teen rating in the USA. The game is a little more on the realistic side than Fortnite, however. “Frenetic firefights are accompanied by blood-splatter effects, realistic gunfire, and large explosions. Players can also perform various finishing moves on weakened enemies (e.g., stabbing them with a knife; beating opponents down with fists; electrocuting characters). These attacks are often depicted close-up and/or from the victim’s perspective.”
Apex Legends Age Rating | PEGI rating
PEGI (the Pan European Game Information rating board) has awarded Apex Legends with an age rating of 16. Again, this is standard practice for a shooting game. PEGI explains that Apex Legends has received a 16 rating “because it features sustained depictions of violence towards human characters and moderate violence.”
Apex Legends Age Rating | Should children play this game?
With an ESRB Teen rating and a PEGI 16 age rating, you would be in your rights to not allow your children to play the game. Despite this, there are far more unsuitable games out there. If your child plays games like Fortnite and Overwatch, then there isn’t anything they haven’t already seen in Apex Legends. It does contain moderate violence and some use of blood splatter, however. Our advice? Play a round or two of Apex Legends yourself or watch some videos of it in action before deciding whether or not it is okay for your children to play.
