It appears that a Fortnite earthquake event will be the natural disaster that shifts players to the next Season. As has become the tradition with new Fortnite Seasons, developer Epic Games weaves and teases hints at an upcoming event that will drastically alter the island, while also introducing new weapons, gadgets, and vehicles. Sounds file that hint at earthquake tremors and shakes were found in the recent 7.30 update. Will this earthquake event be the start of Fortnite Season 8? Here’s what we know.
What is the Fortnite Earthquake event?
The Fortnite earthquake event discussion stems from a number of files datamined from the recent 7.30 update. Inside a folder named “Earthquake,” dataminers found earthquake-like sounds. According to the (proven capable) @lucas7yoshi_ on Twitter, players can expect to experience a total of 50 tremors before the earthquake event takes place.
It’s definitely Epic Games’ style to slowly reveal the end-of-Season event. Gradually building up tremors is certainly something I can imagine happening. It would no doubt create a lot of buzz across social media and forums; free publicity for a game that is about to undergo a (usually significant) Season upgrade.
Is this the start of the new Fortnite Season 8?
A Fortnite Season 8 release date isn’t expected to be confirmed until shortly after the end of Season 7. However, if the trend is to continue, the climactic events of Season 7 Week 10 will most likely set the stage for the start of Season 8.
What’s more, some recently released skins have been curiously themed around fire. The Fortnite earthquake event may lead to volcanic eruptions and magma. This would change the landscape entirely, following on from the blizzard that covered the entire map.
With the Fortnite Season 8 release date estimated to be sometime towards the end of February, Epic Games will be wanting to really push itself to ensure that the game stands out amidst a very crowded month in gaming. After all, Apex Legends and Battlefield 5 are about to enter the battle royale warzone!
