Smash Ultimate Pre Order Bonus – DLC, Special Edition, and More

If you’re in the market for a Smash Ultimate pre-order bonus, I’m sorry to tell you that there isn’t one… exactly. There are certain things you can gain by purchasing the game early, as well as a Smash Ultimate Special Edition that will net you some unique features. Aside from that, there is Smash Ultimate DLC on the way already, which you can capitalize on by buying the game early. Here’s everything you need to know about the Smash Ultimate pre-order bonus, Special Edition, DLC, and more.

Smash Ultimate Pre Order Bonus – What Is It?

So, the Smash Ultimate pre-order bonus isn’t something that’s directly tied to pre-ordering the game. Instead, you’ll be rewarded for purchasing it early—specifically, by buying it before January 31, 2019. You see, the already announced Piranha Plant DLC is free for all users who purchase and register a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate prior to January 31. After that point, players will have to pay for this DLC item.

Aside from this, pre-ordering Smash Ultimate doesn’t make a huge difference. Some retailers are offering discounted rates for pre-orders, but these are few and far between. Check your local game supplier to see if they’re offering a discounted version if you pre-order; if not, there’s no reason to do so. Just buy it day one or purchase it from the Nintendo eShop.

Smash Ultimate Pre Order Bonus – What About The Special Edition?

The Smash Ultimate Special Edition isn’t like typical special editions. As opposed to offering extra in-game content like cosmetics and unique unlockables, the Smash Ultimate Special Edition’s extras are all hardware. Priced at about $140, the Smash Ultimate Special Edition features the base game in a black steelbook case. On top of this, it comes with a unique Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch controller, which is likely the main thing in this bundle that fans are attracted to.

Aside from this, there’s nothing particularly special about the special edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If you want the controller and don’t mind spending an extra $80 for it, go ahead and order this version if the game. If not, the base version should be fine for you.

Smash Ultimate Pre Order Bonus – Is There Smash Ultimate DLC?

As mentioned above, the only real Smash Ultimate pre-order bonus is that players who register their copies before January 31 2019 will get the upcoming Piranha Plant DLC for free. However, this isn’t the only DLC scheduled for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

On top of Piranha Plant, there will be a total of five new fighters being added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the near future. It is unknown who these characters will be at present, although there are some things we do know about Smash DLC.

First of all, these Fighters will all cost $6 each. It might seem a little steep, but they’ll be launching as part of their very own bundle, which will also include a new stage and a unique new music set. Five rounds of $6 makes $30, but if you know for sure that you’re going to pick up all five, you can buy the Fighters Pass for $25 now.

The Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass operates in a similar fashion to traditional Season Passes, as a single one-off purchase will grant you access to all five Fighters as they release down the line. So, if you’re sure that Smash Ultimate is something that you’ll be playing for quite some time, it’s worth your while to invest in the Fighters Pass now so you can save money and refrain from worrying about paying for each individual DLC pack later.

And that’s pretty much it. There’s no specific pre-order bonuses, but those who buy the game within the first two months or so will get the first DLC pack for free. As for the Smash Ultimate Special Edition, well that’s up to you. Personally, I’m not that fussed as it doesn’t affect content, but the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition Nintendo Switch controller is pretty great. If you don’t mind spending the money, it could be well worth your time to look into it. Lastly, there are six rounds of DLC scheduled in total. Pick up the Fighters Pass now and you’ll get access to all of them as they come out.
