Red Dead Redemption 2 Photo Mode How to Take a Selfie

Red Dead Redemption 2 Photo Mode – How to Take a Selfie

Rockstar’s long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now, and it’s got many awesome features that weren’t in the original game. One of these is the ability to take selfies in a lovely old-timey style. But how do you access the Red Dead Redemption 2 photo mode? Do you have to get a camera some way? How do you take selfies? We’ve got the answers.

Where Do You Get a Camera in Red Dead Redemption 2?

The first thing you’ll notice when looking for a photo mode in Red Dead Redemption 2 is that it’s not there at the start of the game. There’s no photo mode button, menu option, or even a camera in your inventory. So how do you get it?

You get a camera as part of an early side-mission in the game, received from the town of Valentine. You complete it with Jim “Boy” Calloway, and the mission’s called “The Noblest of Men, and a Woman.” As part of this mission, you’re given a camera, which you can keep for the rest of the game and take self-portraits or pictures whenever you want.

Where is Red Dead Redemption 2 Photo Mode?

While sadly there isn’t a dedicated button like in some games, Red Dead Redemption 2 photo mode is instead accessed by opening your inventory wheel (L1 or LB), selecting “items,” and selecting the camera there. However, don’t expect a photo mode like in Spider-Man or Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as despite Red Dead Redemption 2 only taking place 120 years ago rather than the 2500 years ago of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Rockstar has decided to make their photo mode semi-realistic.

You can take photos of the environment, or you can take self-portraits of Arthur Morgan, but not phone-style “selfies” as the idea is Arthur is setting the camera up to take a picture from further away. There are a number of different poses and expressions for him, as well as different focus, zoom and filter options, so you can make a load of proper Back To The Future Part III-style pictures if you want. These can then be uploaded to Rockstar Social Club if you want.
