Destiny 3 Leaks | Release date, news, rumors, story

Destiny 3 is inching ever closer to becoming a reality. A big batch of Destiny 3 leaks has been doing the rounds, offering details for Bungie’s DLC plans, the threequel’s story, and so much more. So, if you want a sneak peek at some possible new Destiny 3 worlds and locations, endgame info, and everything else possibly new, including a Destiny 3 release date then get on scrolling down, Guardians. There’s even all the latest news, rumors, and other tidbits for you to get your teeth stuck into, too.

Destiny 3 Leaks | The latest D3 rumors

As posted on Reddit by u/ShadowOfAnonTheNine, a prominent Destiny 4Chan leaker, these series of Destiny 3 leaks should be taken with a grain of salt (he himself admits as much) but are highly interesting for several reasons.

Time to grab your space passport. There’s a bunch of new Destiny 3 planets potentially on the horizon.

Old Chicago is one such location which, though familiar if it’s going to be a return trip to Earth, should open up a brand-new landscape for players to stomp around in. Earth/EDZ’s recent settings have been pretty mundane, so here’s hoping Old Chicago can mix things up a little.

Two more rumored Destiny 3 locations include Europa and Venus. The inclusion of Europa means all signs point to Jupiter being a completely new planet for Guardians to explore. In real-life, it’s one of four large moons orbiting Jupiter. Venus, meanwhile, would be a returning locale from the original Destiny.

Destiny 3 Release Date Rumors | When will Destiny 3 come out?

According to Redditor AnonTheNine (that man again), Destiny 3 is in in the early stages of development as of writing. AnonTheNine is a well-respected Destiny insider and has correctly leaked Destiny content before. The user has leaked Thunderlord in Festival of the Lost, for example. While this is no doubt exciting news to Destiny fans worldwide, we’re still a good while off a potential Destiny 3 release date.

The original Destiny began development in 2010 and released in 2014. Destiny 2, meanwhile, began development in the months following Destiny’s release. Destiny 2 released on September 6, 2017. While the development time was reduced for Destiny 2, it still took a good three years in the oven. This likely means we’ll see a release date of late 2020 for Destiny 3 at the earliest. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Destiny 3 officially announced next year, with a 2020 release date, anyway. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see Destiny 3 release in 2021, based on the development time of the first two games. Both of these conveniently puts Destiny 3 in line with potential release dates for the next generation of consoles.

Destiny 3 Beta | Will There be a Destiny 3 Alpha or Beta?

Destiny 3 Release Date

Before any potential Destiny 3 release date, there will likely be a set of alphas and betas leading into it releasing proper. There was for the original game and Destiny 2. In terms of timing, a look back at the Destiny 2 beta gives us some idea as to when we might see a Destiny 3 beta. Destiny 2 released on September 6, 2017. Its beta was live from July 18, 2017, for those who pre-ordered the full game. Therefore, we could expect a Destiny 3 beta around a month before the game releases. An alpha would likely be a little earlier.

Destiny 3 Consoles | What platforms will Destiny 3 release on?

If we’re talking about a 2020 release date at the earliest, we wouldn’t be surprised if Destiny 3 is on the next generation of consoles. A Switch port wouldn’t be likely at all, unfortunately. PC fans will likely not miss out this time, either. Destiny 2 eventually released on PC on October 24, 2017. We’d like to think that after its successful launch that the Destiny 3 PC port will launch alongside the console versions of the game. Chances are that Sony will like to hold onto its exclusive PlayStation content for Destiny 3, too. It had some for the original game and Destiny 2, at least.

Destiny 3 Story and Setting | What Will Happen in Destiny 3?

Destiny 3 Release Date

As leaked by AnonTheNine, it seems as though Destiny 3 will be set on Europa to some extent. The Redditor revealed the image above, which is a render of the icy Moon. Europa originally appeared in concept art for the first Destiny game, but it hasn’t been seen as a location yet. What’s perhaps more interesting, however, is that AnonTheNine says “Guardians using Darkness” will be included in Destiny 3, which hints at pretty big story changes on the way. *Spoilers follow for Destiny 2 and Forsaken!*

Destiny 2 ended with us defeating the Red Legion commander Dominus Ghaul, who had been using the Light to enact on his nefarious visions of universal domination. He wanted to prove that him and his race, though notoriously evil, were deserving of The Traveler’s Light. After you defeat him, Ghaul is destroyed by The Traveler, which has been dormant for centuries. The Traveler is awake now. After this, however, dark and foreboding pyramid ships are seen some vast distance away, hinting at the fifth race in Destiny’s lore. Perhaps they have something to do with The Darkness? Has The Traveler awoken the Darkness as well?

Destiny 2 Forsaken opens with the death of Cayde-6, and it is up to you to figure out who killed him. The end has you defeating the Voice of Riven, opening up a portal to the Dreaming City. It’s likely that the next Destiny 2 DLC will cover the Dreaming City and what it has to do with everything. It seems we’ll see this DLC release next year, too. According to AnonTheNine Destiny 2 Year 3 “will be another annual pass.” This means we’ll learn more about the lore next year, before any potential Destiny 3. It does sound like the Darkness and the mysterious fifth race will play a big role, however.

Destiny 3 Enemies | Are there new races in Destiny 3?

But that’s not all. There’s even a new race (reportedly) in town. Not much is known about the Veil, but it’s sure to feed in to the lore surrounding light, darkness, and the Traveler come Destiny 3 if these leaks are to be believed.

That’s because the crux of the main game’s plot will potentially revolve around the Veil attempting to resurrect their god, who had previously fallen in a battle with the light. They’re going to use the Traveler as a pawn in their plans, which is where you come in to, inevitably, put a stop to it.

Being described as “having dark greenish skin, sharp claws and having a distinct stench of ‘wet earth’” the Veil will harness the powers of darkness to help combat the light in a battle which might, finally, tease the re-emergence of the Traveler.

New Destiny 3 Classes | Will there be new archetypes?

Speaking of the light, we could also be getting a twist on the traditional Hunter, Warlock, and Titan classes that have permeated the first two entries of the Destiny series. According to the leaker, “darkness abilities” are a certainty though, of course, we won’t know much about that until Bungie decides to show its hand and reveal Destiny 3 to the world. You’d imagine all three original classes will return in some way, shape, or form, however.

Destiny 3 PVP | PvPvE modes teased

Prepare for the biggest shakeup to the game’s format yet if these Destiny 3 PVP whispers are to be believed. That’s because PvPvE large-scale areas will seemingly be introduced. According to the poster, it’ll be more “Planetside than Division” which hints at open environments and a chaotic mix-up of the two. There might even be grand battles the likes of which the series has never seen before on the way.

This all amounts to a design philosophy that will cater more to the hardcore audience, as many will revel in a more combatative open environment compared to the relatively sterile, stress-free landscapes of the first two Destiny titles.

Destiny 3 Development Team | Who is developing Destiny 3?

The main man behind Destiny 3 is Chris Barrett, rather than Luke Smith of before. “Luke Smith [is] still there in a big role,” however, according to AnonTheNine. Luke Smith was the director of Destiny 2, for those unaware. Chris Barrett is the game director at Bungie. Either way, the head honchos are seemingly out to put their full force behind Destiny 3.
