If you thought a Kojima-less Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain wouldn’t be stirring anytime soon, you’d be wrong. The Metal Gear Solid V 1.17 update has just launched with a bunch of new guns, changes to FOB and, what’s this, you can now play as Quiet online? Just when I thought I was out, they pull me right back in.
MGSV: The Phantom Pain 1.17 Update: How to Play as Quiet
To play as Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain you must do two things. Firstly, you have to complete Mission 22 in the main campaign to unlock the ability to set up your own FOB (Forward Operating Base). This offshoot of Mother Base acts as the game’s online component, with players being able to both infiltrate other players’ bases and defend their own base.
That’s where Quiet comes in. She’ll now form part of your staff, and you can use her to infiltrate other FOBs. When selecting the option to infiltrate an opposition FOB (the first tab ‘Infiltration targets’ on the FOB Missions screen), you’ll find Quiet under the character select screen in the Sortie Prep menu. She comes equipped with a high jump, a cloaking device, exceptional sniper rifle skills and, yep, some questionable clothing.
MGSV: The Phantom Pain 1.17 Update: What Else Has Changed?
There are now more FOB weapons at your disposal. There’s a sniper, the Renov ickx-bis, which comes in both the lethal and non-lethal variety. Bizarrely, there’s also a Dark Matter Generator and a sphere-like Energy Wall to stop you from taking damage. Additionally, a Hard mode has been added for FOB events.
