God of War Not Full Screen: How to Fix the Black Bars

God of War may look extra purdy with those mountains of snow glistening and Kratos’ facial fuzz gently fluttering in the cold, Norse air – but that’s no good if you can’t see the game in all of its beauty. Some players are reporting that God of War is surrounded by black bars on PS4 and is not going full screen. Here’s how to fix the God of War not full screen issue, and how to see whether you have the issue in the first place.

God of War Not Full Screen: What’s the Issue?

Judging by anecdotal evidence, the God of War not full screen issue appears to be affecting only a small percentage of gamers eager to start hacking things to death with Kratos on the PS4.

The full screen issue will see users have black bars surrounding the screen, creating a windowed effect for the actual God of War gameplay, and there seems to be no way to stretch the window out to full screen in the game’s option menus.

It is not believed the problem affects certain TV sets or console types, but the cause of the full screen issue has not yet been officially determined.

God of War Not Full Screen: How to Fix the Issue

To fix the God of War not full screen issue, you’re going to need to head to the console’s System Settings page. If you’re currently in the middle of a game, press the middle PlayStation button on your controller and scroll along to System Settings.

Once there, click System Settings, go to Sound and Screen and, once you’ve pressed that, go to Display Area Settings. This page will allow you to stretch the area of your game window to the furthest corners of your television screen using the white arrows in all four corners.

If you are currently in a game, you may need to quit out of God of War and boot it up again to see any changes.

There you have it: you can go back to killing everything in sight now without having to strain your eyes.
