Saints Row Reboot Bad Sales Embracer Group

Saints Row Reboot Reportedly Cost $100 Million to Make and “Underperformed” for Embracer Group

Embracer Group’s latest financial report allegedly revealed that the development cost of the Saints Row reboot may have exceeded $100 million, according to a fan account that tracks the company’s financials. In addition to this, the report shows that the PC/Console segment had a tough year in 2022 due to underperforming game releases, which resulted in a loss of $48.5 million.

Embracer undeterred by poor Saints Row reboot sales

The Saints Row reboot seems to have performed poorly, according to the fan account @EmbracerInvest, but there’s a silver lining to Embracer’s cloud. Sales of old games still reached $202.5 million, with the primary revenue drivers being Deep Rock Galactic, Snowrunner, Borderland 3, and Metro Exodus. Additionally, smaller-scale new releases like Goat Simulator 3 and Evil West met expectations which helped offset some of the loss from Saints Row.

Despite a disappointing launch for Saints Row, the company doesn’t seem deterred. Embracer Group invested an additional $162.7 million in developing games for PCs and consoles in Q3 2022.

While the poor reception of the Saints Row reboot may have initially impacted the financial performance of the company, Embracer Group states that it remains committed to investing in game development and driving sales organically. The company’s long-term plans are to increase investment in game development.

Embracer has accumulated a strong stable of IPs over the last few years, including Square Enix’s western studios. The report stated that 31 AAA games are in development across the group’s studios, including five from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.
