Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom durability is a persistent problem. We originally thought that you couldn’t repair or fix equipment, but a new trick using the Rock Octorok has been discovered. There are limitations to this new tactic, but so far it’s pretty much the only way to restore durability that we know of in TotK. Luckily, as a bonus, it will also upgrade your chosen weapon or shield. Here’s how to use the Octorok trick to repair equipment in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How to repair equipment with Octorok trick in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
You can repair equipment in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom by dropping a chosen weapon or shield in front of a Rock Octorok. The monster will then suck the item inside, glimmer for a few seconds, and then spit it back out. The selected piece of equipment will have its durability fully restored and be upgraded with a randomized buff.
This Octorok trick, however, does have its limitation. In particular, a Rock Octorok will only repair one object. Luckily, if you kill the monster and have it respawn during the next blood moon, it will essentially refresh and allow you to fix an item one more time. Additionally, the Octorok is unable to repair magic rods or unfused amiibo weapons for whatever reason, and it will not be able to remove the brittle or decayed status of an item.
We recommend marking the map with a stamp whenever you encounter a Rock Octorok so that you can travel there whenever you’re in need of a quick repair. There are Rock Octoroks everywhere, particularly in places that have, well, a lot of rocks (like Eldin Canyon for instance), but those that are close to fast travel points will likely be your monsters of choice. Using this trick will also save you a lot of rupees and resources, and also allow you to use your more powerful weapons and shields without having to worry about it breaking outright.
