Zelda Tears of The Kingdom Unfuse Weapons

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: How to Unfuse Gear

Being able to fuse weapons is a great new feature in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but what about unfusing them? You can turn trash into treasure by slapping it onto your sword, spear, or shield. However, there are plenty of instances where you might want to know how to unfuse gear, but the game doesn’t walk you through whether that’s a possibility or not.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Destroy Fused Material option

Fortunately, you can unfuse your gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The process is simple but easy to overlook.

To unfuse a piece of gear:

  • Open your inventory and scroll to the item you want to unfuse.
  • Press A.
  • Select “Destroy fused material.”
  • Press A again.

After this, you’ll have your base weapon or shield back. However, you should note that only the base item will remain. So, for example, if you were holding a Traveler’s Claymore and fused it with a rock, if you choose to destroy the fused material, the rock will be lost forever.

Even with the drawback, there’s plenty of reason to unfuse your gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom occasionally. The primary one I found was that I needed a specific damage type, but I didn’t want to get rid of any of the weapons I had currently. The option to destroy fused material makes it easy to change your favorite sword from a slashing-type weapon to a bashing-type. Some enemies are strong against some damage types and not others, so this can be a lifesaver in combat.
