Wii U Games You Missed In 2013
-
Earthbound
[Welcome to Earth] - Released July 18th, 2013
rn
rnOr this. This is an incredible use of the $20 card you got for Nintendo’s eShop download, especially considering a copy of the game for Super Nintendo can go for over a hundred dollars. Even better, you can play the game as it was meant to be played by accessing Nintendo’s Wii U GamePad enabled strategy guide online. -
Game & Wario
[Review] - Released June 23rd, 2013
rn
rnIf you’ve never played a WarioWare game before, beware that Game & Wario is largely made up of mini games. It might be the most original, off-the-wall, absurdist wet dream of interactive one-liners but it is a bunch of mini games. I think most players agree that Gamer, where players help 9-volt stay up late playing mini games on the Wii U GamePad’s screen, is the best of the bunch. There’s plenty to love in this Summer Wii U release. -
LEGO City Undercover
[Review] - Released March 18th, 2013
rn
rnA few months after Wii U’s launch, I don’t know if anyone owned the console exclusively. We all had other games on our radar, like Grand Theft Auto V which still hadn’t revealed much information at all. Thankfully, Chase McCain swung into action and uncovered a conspiracy… of FUN! An entire LEGO city in HD on Wii U and hours and hours of entertaining free-roaming gameplay. Don’t miss it! -
Pikmin 3
[Review] - Released August 4th, 2013
rn
rnPikmin 3 makes big promises for Nintendo’s HD-generation console, with natural scenes and scores of Pikmin beautifully modeled and animated dotting your big screen TV. Pikmin’s gameplay is challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, especially when you learn to master the three explorers together. Tons of challenge maps extend the game’s replay value and local multiplayer really keeps things interesting. -
Resident Evil: Revelations HD Edition
[Review] - Released May 21st, 2013
rn
rnThis is the only true port of the formerly 3DS exclusive Resident Evil Revelations. Capcom brought the game to consoles this year and while a hauntingly engrossing exclusive bettered by handheld 3D visuals turned slightly more mashction-oriented on Xbox and PlayStation. On Wii U, with the GamePad controller, some of that fright came back. You could scan the environment and use the touch screen, making it the one true 3DS-to-Wii-U port so far. -
Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure
[Review] - Released September 24th, 2013
rn
rnMarvel’s team got the LEGO treatment this year, but Scribblenauts drew all over DC Comics and came away a satisfyingly silly game with some incredible options. Maxwell gets his logo (a star, duh) but the sheer volume of different super heroes you can summon will please any fan. Don’t miss this on sale or borrow it from a comics-minded Nintendo fan. -
Skylanders Swap Force
[Review] - Released October 13th, 2013
rn
rnI know I’ve harped on and on about how truly powerful Skylanders Swap Force will be on the game industry and how it attracts younger gamers. I can’t wait for more in the franchise though, as the dynamic swappability on show in Swap Force will be hard to top. Get started now, especially if you have kids. The game is incredibly fun if you get invested in just a few figures. Besides, the big selling point for late Wii U adopters is that you get it with the console if you choose right now. -
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
[Review] - Released August 20th, 2013
rn
rnSeriously. Play this game. Ubisoft has been great to Wii U owners with tons of ports and plans for more. You’re getting the same game and sometimes the added GamePad options or off-TV play make the Wii U version a better choice. -
The Wonderful 101
[Review] - Released September 13th, 2013
rn
rnEven I missed this new license from Platinum Games. The always vocal Hideki Kamiya brought a ton of personality to an early Wii U exclusive with a decidedly hardcore combat system. There’s a ton of showmanship in Platinum’s colorful toy-world where hundreds of allies join a special team of heroes to create… a big fist and a gun and a whip…. No, this is not Bayonetta 2. It’s The Wonderful 101! -
Toki Tori 2
[Hands-On] - Released April 4th, 2013
rn
rnToki Tori originally fluttered down to Earth on Nintendo’s line of portables, but Toki Tori 2 debuted earlier this year on Wii U before porting over to PC. It’s a chipper puzzle game where your platforming progress is only limited by your ability to manipulate the environment with two skills: the stomp and the whistle. Got an eShop gift card for Christmas? Here’s your answer. -
Wii U Games You Missed In 2013
rnThere is no denying that the Wii U has had a pretty rough year. It’s gotten beaten up, bullied, there’s even been some name calling but no one can keep Nintendo down, not even Nintendo themselves. Nintendo holds its own fate in its hands and will surely hold up against this storm of naysaying and hissing by relying on Nintendo 3DS. Here are a bunch of games you new Wii U owners can pick up next. ZombiU certainly deserves a mention if you got a new console for Christmas. Definitely one of the best launch games, but here are more titles you might have missed in 2013.
