Minecraft Outdated Client error fix

Minecraft outdated client error fix

When attempting to launch Minecraft, an error message can appear telling users, “Could not connect. Outdated client.” The outdated client error can be frustrating when attempting to connect to Minecraft Realms as it doesn’t give a clear indicator as to what’s causing the issue. However, there are a few things a play can try to fix the error.

How to fix the outdated client error in Minecraft

Minecraft could not connect outdated client error message

The most obvious thing to do when receiving the outdated client error message in Minecraft is to make sure the game is fully updated. This typically happens automatically on most platforms, but this may not have happened yet if a patch has just been released.

To update Minecraft on various platforms, use the instructions below:

Switch

  • Highlight the game and press “+.”
  • Move to “Software Update.”
  • Press A on “Via the Internet.”

PS4/PS5

  • Highlight the game on the media bar or in the game library.
  • Press Options.
  • Select “Check for Update”

iOS and Android

  • Go to the game’s store page.
  • Press “Update” if it appears on the page.

Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S

  • Highlight the game icon and press the options button.
  • Select “Manage Game and Add-ons.”
  • Users should be able to see if there are any impending updates on this screen.

Windows 10

  • Find Minecraft in the Windows 10 store.
  • Press “Update” if it appears here.

Java Version

The Java version can install multiple versions of Minecraft simultaneously. Players need to make sure the version they’re using is compatible with the server they’re trying to connect with.

If players continue to have issues with the Outdated Client error message once they’ve updated their Minecraft installation, the issue probably lies with the server they’re trying to connect with. In this case, users can either attempt to contact the server’s owner or, if they own the server, make sure it’s updated to the latest version.
