How to get a Banana Tree in Stardew Valley

To grow bananas in Stardew Valley, you first need to get a banana tree sapling. These have a chance to drop from Golden Coconuts found scattered across the Fern Islands. Banana trees planted on the island will produce fruit year-round, although they will only produce bananas during the summer in Stardew Valley.

First things first: To get a banana sapling, you’ll need to travel to Ginger Island. Getting there takes a fair amount of work, and generally requires players to reach the end-game. However, the island plays host to most of the new content in Stardew Valley‘s update version 1.5, so you’ll want to get there as soon as you can. You may also recall that these fruits were the top-rated request in developer ConcernedApe’s previous Twitter poll.

The saplings are a rare drop from Golden Coconuts, but there’s also chance to find them as loot inside the volcano mines. If they’re available to buy, we haven’t found out how yet, but it never hurts to keep your eyes peeled.

As for growing and cultivating, these trees work the same as any other. They take 28 days to mature before producing fruit, and on the basic farm, will grow bananas during the summer. On the Fern Islands, however, they’ll grow year-round, same as the newly added mango trees.

Bananas will play into new recipes, namely the Banana Pudding food item. However, they’re also used at the aptly titled Banana Shrine, where they’ll spawn a visit from a gorilla who will offer three Golden Walnuts in exchange for his favorite treat.
