Return to Monkey Island how to get mop

Return to Monkey Island: How to Get a Mop: Distract the Chef and Mop Tree Map Location

You get the mop in Return to Monkey Island from the chef at the SCUMM Bar. This info is easy to find out because practically everyone in town agrees he’s the mop expert. However, you’ll soon find that your real task is to make a mop, which requires quite a bit of footwork.

How do you make a mop in Return to Monkey Island?

Return to Monkey Island Chef and Mop

To make a mop in Return to Monkey Island, you need a branch from the mop tree. To do so, you must follow these steps:

  • Make sure you have the knife and forgiveness frog from the voodoo stop on Low Street.
  • Go to the pier next to the Scumm Bar kitchen and grab the tangled string.
  • Get Carla’s slogan from her re-election poster near the docks.
  • Read the plaque on Carla’s statue on Low Street and get the location.
  • Go to the Governor’s Mansion and ask to borrow the ingredient book.
  • Use your feathered quill on the forgiveness frog and write an apology to Carla. (If you’re on casual mode you can just fork it over)
    • The apology is:
      • Dear Carla
      • Sorry for losing the book I borrowed
      • (The slogan on the re-election poster)
      • (The choice mentioning the location on the statue)
      • (The last phrase doesn’t matter)
  • Get the ingredient book and take it to the cook.
  • While he’s distracted, use the knife to carve some wood from the mop.
  • Take the piece of wood to Wally to get the map to the Mop Tree.
  • Enter the forest near the museum and use the map.
  • Take the path the map indicated (this changes each playthrough).
  • When you arrive at the mop tree, use your knife to cut down a branch.
  • Use the string with the carved handle to make your own mop.
