Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War officially confirmed, reveal next week

Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War officially confirmed, more coming next week

Doritos may have accidentally spoiled some of this announcement a few weeks ago, but Activision has finally confirmed it: Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War is the next entry in the series. The official Call of Duty channels debuted a gameplay-free trailer unveiling the name and saying that the another reveal would be coming on August 26.

The description of the video simply reads, “Know your history or be doomed to repeat it. Verdansk. August 26.” Verdansk is the location of Warzone, implying that there will some sort of event that will show even more of the game within that battle royale. It is likely tied to the mysterious mid-season event and coincides with the day in 1957 where the Soviet Union announced that it successfully tested its first ICBM. While it may be a coincidence, it could mean something will happen with the bunker in Warzone.

Hopefully, this event will come with some gameplay trailer as this trailer was mainly made up of historical footage. But it is unclear what Activision will disclose next week.

The trailer is narrated by KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov, who defected from the Soviet Union in the 1970s. His words are about “ideological subversion,” the slow, four-step process of brainwashing and confusing the public and, specifically in this case, the American public. The trailer also brings up “Perseus,” an alleged mysterious Soviet spy who was said to have infiltrated U.S. national security. It is unclear exactly how the game will implement these ideas, which have been oddly prescient in the last few years.
