New Assassin’s Creed game reveal has fans fighting over RPG mechanics

The new Assassin’s Creed game is currently being revealed in a strange Bosslogic livestream and the chat is an absolute mess. Fans are fighting over whether the next game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise should have RPG mechanics or not, among other things.

Let’s rewind a bit for people who are not super-intense fans of the franchise: there have been quite a few Assassin’s Creed games. Each successive game mixes things up, and some of the newer ones have strayed from the purer fighting mechanics of the original by bringing in RPG elements.

Understandably, some fans are not happy with these changes, typing “No RPG” in the Twitch chat to protest against the inclusion of RPG elements in the new game. As it stands, the Bosslogic livestream has chat going a mile a minute, just like you’d expect to see with a hotly-anticipated stream with more than 20,000 people watching.

Quite a few fans are posting variants of “No RPG,” signaling their disapproval of any RPG mechanics in this upcoming game. (I have, however, seen a few fans signaling approval of RPG mechanics, although they seem to be badly outnumbered by the anti-RPG fans.)

The general strangeness of the stream itself doesn’t help much, either. It’s been going for 2 hours and 15 minutes, and we still don’t quite have a reveal of the main character or a firm idea of the setting, although it’s looking like it’s leaning somewhat towards a European medieval setting. (Turns out, drawing some high-quality art from scratch takes a few hours.)

The inclusion (or lack thereof) of RPG mechanics isn’t the only point of contention for fans. Others are shouting that they don’t want to see any microtransactions in the next Assassin’s Creed game. On a more positive note, some users are also pledging their support for co-op play.

You can see all of the craziness for yourself in the new Assassin’s Creed game live stream, but be warned: several people are posting spoilers for The Last of Us 2 in chat.
