More Proof of PS Vita Name for NGP

Ok, ok. We have been covering this new NGP name a little bit too much lately, but hey, it's big news and we're excited about it. Not the name, that sucks. We're excited that in just one week, we're going to get our grubby mitts on the NGP, the PSVita, whatever it's going to be called, for the very first time.

Because of that, were more interested than ever in knowing exactly what it'll be officially named. And PS Vita is looking like the most likely candidate.

Daniel and I chatted about it when the rumor first hit the web. We brushed it off. We just didn't believe it (the name was far too crappy). Then Daniel found those screenshots that he posted up yesterday. I decided to do some further digging, and was able to turn up more evidence.

A domain name, psvita.com has been discovered, registered to NetNames Ltd. That's not much of a sore thumb, until we checked PSP.com, which lists NetNames Ltd as a technical contact there as well. Only difference, is the fact that Sony Computer Entertainment is listed as the registrant for the latter, but not the former. Although, companies tend to do this to hide ownership of such domains, because of jerks like me who like to spoil their surprise.

That's still not quite enough to call it proof. So we kept digging. Then we turned up a Sony Computer Entertainment developer site, at the web address: vita.scedev.net.

There isn't much information on the actual dev site, but the extension is likely set up so that when the announcement is made, developers know exactly where to go.

So now we have rumors, pics, web domains, and a developer-only site. I'd say that's a lot of smoke, and where there's smoke, there's bound to be some fire. PS Vita probably going to be the official name.

We will say one more thing. Things can change even at the last minute. The PlayStation 3 motion controller was codenamed the PlayStation Arc. A domain name was even discovered for playstationarc.com, registered to Sony, just days before last year's E3. Two days later, it was unveiled as the PlayStation Move.

What are your thoughts? Now that you've seen all of this evidence, do you think it's going to be the name of Sony's new handheld? How do you feel about the PS Vita name?
