A Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town remake is heading to the Switch in Japan this autumn. The remake, Story of Seasons: Reunion in Mineral Town, will combine Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town into one wholesome game. It’s set to launch on October 17.
The announcement, first published in Famitsu, revealed that Marvelous was bringing back a classic entry in the Bokujō Monogatari series for the Switch. The article included a fresh look at the new game, revealing some redone artwork as well. While no details of a Western release have been made clear as of now, it would be surprising not to bring Friends of Mineral Town over to Switch after the lackluster response to Harvest Moon: Light of Hope. This could be a chance for Marvelous to further lock in its domination over the farming/life-sim genre as its old partner Natsume hasn’t been able to strike gold with its spin on Harvest Moon.
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town follows the standard Bokujō Monogatari formula of creating a successful farm. The main character, a young boy, had kept in contact with an elderly man who saved him as a child. The pen-pals wrote letters back and forth as the boy grew up. When one day the elderly man stopped responding, the boy got concerned and decided to investigate. His journey brought him to Mineral Town, where he found out the man had passed away and left him a now-dilapidated farm. The female version of the game, Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town, follows the same premise, but with a different plot: The young woman simply became bored of life in the city and responded to an ad selling a farm.
It’s unknown which plot the remake will follow, or if a new one will be crafted. It’s likely from combining the two games that players will get to choose either the boy or girl. Keep an eye out here as more details are revealed. Until then, enjoy some sneak peeks at the upcoming game below!
