In a direct message to a fan on Twitter, CD Projekt Red developer Paweł Sasko said unlocking all of Cyberpunk 2077‘s abilities could require multiple playthroughs, according to IGN. Sasko, the game’s lead quest designer, told Reddit user u/CaptainGJB that it “most likely it won’t be possible to max out everything on 1 playthrough,” implying that fans could eventually enjoy a Cyberpunk 2077 New Game Plus Mode.
In a screenshot posted to the Cyberpunk subreddit, CaptainGJB asks Sasko if it will be possible to have a character with “maxed out” stats and abilities or if the game will have “limited upgrade slots.” Sasko tells CaptainGJP that the making it possible to max out a character in one playthrough would be counter to the game’s goals.
“[I]t would make little sens [sic] to have a game that is about replayability and choices,” Sasko said in the message, “while at the same time allow the players to max out all stats on the first run.”
Sasko notes that the team is still working on Cyberpunk 2077‘s character progression systems, so things may change before the game is released. In an interview at E3 2019, Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz told YouTuber YongYea (via MSPoweruser) that the game will have multiple endings, so it would make sense to allow players to replay the game in order to gain new skills and experience all of the endings.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s New Game Plus Mode wasn’t added until after the game launched, so it’s possible CD Projekt Red could give Cyberpunk 2077 a new game plus mode, even if it’s not available right away.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on April 16, 2020. After GameRevolution’s Jason Faulkner got a chance to see the game’s behind-closed-doors demo at E3 2019, he said it’s likely to be one of 2020’s best games, bringing “something new to the first-person action RPG genre.”
