3D Realms has announced that an Ion Maiden console release will be coming soon. The title is currently in early access on Steam. 1C Entertainment will be publishing the game on non-PC platforms. The console ports will coincide with the full launch on PC next year.
The Ion Maiden console release will include versions on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. All versions of the game will be releasing in Q2 of 2019. This release will include both physical and digital editions for the FPS. Previously, 3D Realms had revealed that Ion Maiden acts as a prequel to its 2016 title, Bombshell. It will run on Ken Silverman’s Build engine which powered titles such as Duke Nukem 3D. 1C Entertainment’s previous publishing work includes many independent titles mostly on the PC platform. The company has also revealed a new trailer for the game, which you can view below. It shows that the game will try to emulate the gameplay and graphics of 90’s FPS titles such as Shadow Warrior. However, a press release has shown that the game will take new design mechanics for the genre into account.
The Nintendo Everything report of the reveal also mentions another project is in the works from 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment. This so-far unannounced project will use the Quake engine and will also be releasing on the Nintendo Switch. There is currently no other news on this new title coming from the two companies.
Ion Maiden was initially announced for PC and entered Steam Early Access in February of this year. It is the first game in 19 years to utilize the Build engine. The game follows the exploits of Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison, a bomb disposal expert. She is tasked with confronting a transhumanist cult leader called Dr. Jadus Heskel as he wreaks havoc across Neo D.C.
