Red Dead Redemption 4K Xbox One X Update

New Update Makes Red Dead Redemption Run in Native 4K on Xbox One X

Starting today, you can play Red Dead Redemption in native 4K. That game and five others just received updates that give them Xbox One X exclusive enhancements. The Xbox One has gotten some criticism about its lack of exclusive titles, but Microsoft seems to be continuously adding value to the console with its backwards compatibility program.

Until now Xbox One backwards compatibility focused strictly on making select Xbox and Xbox 360 games work well on the console. Now though, some Xbox 360 games are getting patches that actually give them capabilities beyond the original on Xbox One X. Unlike other previous generation Rockstar titles, Red Dead Redemption never came out on PC, so it never got the slew of graphical improvement mods games like GTA San Andreas, GTA 4, and GTA 5 received.

This Xbox One X 4K resolution enhancement update for Red Dead Redemption does a lot to improve the game’s visuals, and it’s amazing to see just how well the graphics have aged. With just a change of resolution and a few unspecified aliasing upgrades, RDR feels like a fresh new game. RDR also has improved loading times and performance on the Xbox One X, and that console is definitely the best way to play it now. Check out the screenshots in the gallery below for a look at just how much RDR‘s looks have improved on Xbox One X.

In addition to Red Dead Redemption, a few other games have Xbox One X enhancements as of today as well. Darksiders, Gears of War 2, Portal 2, Sonic Generations, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed all look a little sharper now on Microsoft’s latest console.

This update isn’t the last good news for Xbox fans this month though. A ton of original Xbox games will become backwards compatible with the Xbox One over the next few weeks.

Here’s a list of the OG Xbox games you can look forward to during April:

  • Blinx: The Time Sweeper
  • Breakdown
  • Conker: Live & Reloaded
  • Destroy All Humans!
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • Full Spectrum Warrior
  • Hunter: The Reckoning
  • Jade Empire
  • Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
  • MX Unleashed
  • Panzer Dragoon Orta
  • SSX 3
  • Star Wars: Battlefront
  • Star Wars: Battlefront II
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
  • Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando

While there may not be a ton of exclusives for Xbox One, the backward compatibility definitely helps things. Now that Xbox 360 games are getting some features only available on Xbox One X, the new console looks more attractive. Hopefully, we’ll continue to get a steady flow of Xbox classics in the future.
