Future DLC Plans For Battlefield 3 Announced

It's been almost three months since Back to Karkand was released for Battlefield 3. With strong support promised from EA and DICE, it was only a matter of time before an arsenal of new content was announced. Now that GDC is here we have the scoop.

Three upcoming DLC packages have been announced for Battlefield 3, and they look to bring lots of life to the five month old game. The first pack announced will be called Close Quarters and four maps will be included which feature limited space and short-range weapons are recommended. What was shown in the announcement looked similarly chaotic to free-for-all in Call of Duty where players drop left and right, so be prepared to scream at your television after being killed by shotguns every time you spawn. 10 new weapons will also be included, and we suspect they will be geared toward close range battles.

The second package has been named Armored Kill and will include more traditional Battlefield maps which are extremely large, full of vehicles, and basically the complete opposite of Close Quarters.

A third DLC has been teased but no details are known about it yet. However, with the title End Game, we can only assume it'll be big.

Lastly, an announcement was made pertaining to server hosting. As with the PC version of Battlefield 3, you'll soon have the option to rent a server with its own configuration which will be hosted by a datacenter. You'll be able to configure the map rotation, a few rules, and best of all know that the server is (almost) always running.

Close Quarters will debut in June while Armored Kill will make an appearance sometime this Fall. Server hosting is scheduled to go live toward the beginning of Spring. It's going to be a while before this extra content is made available so by the time it's here you'll probably have completely forgotten about it. At least there are big patches coming soon.
