Fable 4 Playground Games, Microsoft's E3

Fable 4 Is on Its Way With Playground Games at the Helm

Fable 4 is reportedly on its way, with Forza Horizon developer Playground Games being tasked with bringing the sequel to life by Microsoft.

According to a Eurogamer report, sources close to the project have confirmed that Microsoft has given the sequel the green light, with it set to be “a story and character-focussed open-world action RPG.”

Microsoft has allegedly set aside a significant amount of money for the game, with roughly 200 people estimated to be working on it in Playground’s second UK office. According to the report, the game is still in its early stages of development, with it having no projected release window at the time of writing.

The sequel is the first entry in the series that won’t see the involvement of Lionhead Studios, the developer responsible for creating the past three Fable games. Lionhead was shut down by Microsoft while developing Fable Legends, which was canceled as part of this decision.

Though Playground Games only has the Forza Horizon series to its name, the studio is composed of former employees from various studios including Codemasters, Criterion Games, Ubisoft Reflections and Sony Liverpool. However, each of these studios has predominantly focused on developing racing games, so Playground Games is an intriguing choice to oversee Fable 4.

Microsoft has stated that it doesn’t comment on rumor or speculation, so these reports have not been confirmed.
