Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition Review

Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition Review

After reviewing the standard Audeze Maxwell in late 2023, it has remained one of my top recommendations to those looking for a premium gaming headset that will deliver top-tier audio for many years to come. However, aesthetically, it was perhaps a little too subtle for some gamers. Enter the “Wasabi Edition,” with its metallic green finish.

Same headset, new color

Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition Review

Everything that I said about the Maxwell in my 2023 review still remains true with the Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition retaining the impressive build quality, superb sound for all types of media, and solid software support. Audeze’s planar magnetic drivers deliver impressive audio that goes beyond other gaming-focused headsets.

Additionally, the low-latency wireless connection has been rock solid in terms of consistency and I’ve never experienced a drop. Bluetooth 5.3 with LDAC support is also available.

The mic is good, but not great

Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition Review

In late 2024, the Maxwell’s microphone is still decent, though I would only use it for game chat, as it can’t quite deliver the high-quality audio required for streaming and building an audience on Twitch or YouTube.

I repeat: It is green

Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition Review

Look, the Maxwell is still a fantastic headset, but now you can buy it in green. And what a unique type of green it is, too. Audeze has opted for a metallic, highly-reflective material that looks fantastic, especially in person. This will absolutely draw the eye of others. I would never had said this about the all-black original.

The Wasabi colorway fits in with the Xbox exclusivity, as green is the color associated with that brand. Die-hard Xbox fans will likely appreciate representing the Xbox color on their headset. The green is striking, but it does come at a $30 premium over the standard version’s RRP. If you’re big into Xbox and/or green, then that may well be worth it.

Final Verdict

At $329, the Audeze Maxwell Wasabi Edition offers the same exceptional audio quality and robust build as the original, now with a striking metallic green finish. The $30 premium adds a unique aesthetic that’s perfect for fans of bold designs or the Xbox brand. If you value top-tier performance and a standout look, the Wasabi Edition is worth considering.
