FlexiSpot BS14 Office Chair Review

FlexiSpot BS14 Office Chair Review

The FlexiSpot BS14 is marketed as an ergonomic chair that is designed around the “anatomical model of the human body.” Chairs like this are designed to encourage healthier sitting positions, which can sometimes take some getting used to. After an extended testing period, during which I grew to appreciate what the BS14 can do, I’m ready to give my review.

Well-needed support

As someone who quickly notices the impact of a bad office chair, having been plagued with back issues in the past, I’m always eager to test out the latest “ergonomic” solutions. With the BS14, there are a lot of features to explore designed to promote healthy sitting.

I’ll start with what I find the most important: the lumbar support. On the BS14, there’s an adjustable lumbar support, with users able to move the support up and down to get optimal support. This took me some getting used to, as incorrect positioning can result in some significant discomfort over time, especially if you start to slump. Positioned well, and with the correct posture, however, it’s much more effective.

Recline and tilt

Next up is the recline. The BS14 boasts a lockable 98-125 degree recline, which I find to be plenty when it comes to office work or PC gaming. For those desperate for a 180-degree tilt, so that they can sleep, etc., then the 125-degree limit won’t cut it. Then again, you shouldn’t really be thinking about sleeping in an explicitly ergonomic chair designed around sitting.

Speaking of tilt, an interesting feature of the BS14 is the forward seat tilt. This gives users the ability to tilt the seat slightly forward. It’s only 8 degrees, but it makes a real difference. I genuinely felt I slouched less with the tilt enabled so, if you’re a person who can’t consistently sit upright and in a healthy position, this could help a lot.

Personalize your seating experience

As expected, you can adjust the height of the seat. What’s not as expected is the adjustable seat depth, meaning users can move the seat backwards or forwards. This is great for getting the position just right when supporting the upper legs.

The headrest and armrests are great, too. They’re quick and easy to adjust in a variety of ways.

Material choices

When it comes to the materials, I’m generally happy. The breathable mesh is great, especially during hotter days where my office can get stuffy. The construction of the base and supports feels solid, too. The only issue I have is with the “high-quality foam” seat. In the specs, FlexiSpot says “15 cm” of foam, but I’m not measuring close to that. Additionally, the foam is very soft and, for those nearing the load-bearing cap of 136 kg, I’d be skeptical of the support here.

Final Verdict

At £329.99 ($415), the FlexiSpot BS14 offers a well-rounded ergonomic design with adjustable features to support healthier sitting. While it excels in customization and comfort for most users, minor concerns like the seat foam may not suit everyone. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those seeking better posture and improved office seating.
