GameSir G7 HE Iron Man

GameSir G7 HE Iron Man Xbox Controller Review

The GameSir G7 HE Iron Man Xbox controller enters the market with a standout design that immediately catches the eye. If you’re big into Marvel and Iron Man is one of your favorite heroes, then this gamepad will almost certainly tempt you. But how is it to actually game with across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC? This is my review.

Competitive features

As you might imagine, the GameSir G7 HE Iron Man version features all of the same features of the original G7 HE. This includes being officially licensed by Xbox, boasting Hall Effect Sticks and Magnetic Triggers, a three million actuation lifespan on the buttons, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and microphone port with mute functionality, rumble motors in the grips, remappable back buttons, and a swappable magnetic faceplate.

It’s the latter two features that really make this controller shine for me. First, the back buttons, which were previously an exclusive feature found only on more expensive “pro” controllers, have now trickled down to more budget options, levelling the playing field in shooting games and other competitive titles. They are also great from an accessibility perspective, making it easier to trigger certain functions.

Eye-catching design

As for the faceplate, looking at the Iron Man version specifically, removing the outer shell reveals a black internal layer decorated by Tony Stark’s arc reactor, the tech that keeps the character alive. It’s a very cool touch.

Though, it would be great to see GameSir go a step further and add an additional faceplate in the box, perhaps inspired by the Endgame movie with a grittier texture and battle worn look.

How does it game?

GameSir G7 HE Iron Man

When it comes to playing with the G7 HE Iron Man edition, there’s very little to complain about. It feels good in the hands, which is often a weak point for third-party pads. The rubber texture used on the grips is appreciated and contrasts well with the glossy plastic used for the faceplate. It’s worth noting that the glossy plastic attracts fingerprints, so you will likely find yourself cleaning it semi-regularly to keep it looking pristine.

In games like Black Ops 6, the controller comes into its own with the back buttons providing a clear advantage when trying to jump or slide while aiming and shooting at an enemy. Once you start using those back buttons on a controller, it’s very difficult to go back.

Room for improvement

When it comes to downsides, the obvious con is that users are limited to a wired connection. This is not a wireless controller, meaning you’ll need to be fully plugged in at all times. That could be a dealbreaker for some, but it is what it is.

My other complaint is the D-pad which, while looking awesome in keeping with the Iron Man theme, is quite stiff. Even after tens of hours of use, it hasn’t really loosened up. While this isn’t a major issue for most modern games, those keen on retro fighting games may be underwhelmed.

Final Verdict

At $59.99, the GameSir G7 HE Iron Man controller offers a solid mix of unique design and useful features at an okay price. While its wired-only connection and stiff D-pad may not suit everyone, its performance, comfort, and Marvel-inspired aesthetic make it a standout option for gamers and fans alike.
