SCUF SPRING/SUMMER 2022 FACEPLATE REVIEW FOR REFLEX AND INSTINCT CONTROLLERS.
SCUF has expanded its customizable faceplate options for the new season, introducing six pastel colors compatible with its latest PlayStation and Xbox flagship products, the Reflex and Instinct controllers, respectively. Whatever console you’re playing on, SCUF has you covered with some very clean-looking faceplate choices. I received a bunch to try out, so here’s my review.
Six to choose from
Though they are only cheap add-ons, SCUF still succeeds in offering its usual premium packaging and making sure buyers get a satisfying first impression. I got a bundle of Lavender, Mango, Mint, and Aqua variants for the Instinct, though there are also Slate and Sand colors available.
I absolutely love how clean the colors are. While Scuf has long been fulfilling the aesthetic needs of gamers who want overtly gamer aesthetics for their gamepads, I feel like the muted pastel tones of the SS22 faceplate collection are here to satisfy those who value subtlety, clean design, and minimalism, a taste that has certainly started to boom in recent years.
Pastel colors are on-trend at the moment, with saturated and vibrant colors a little less popular, so it’s good to see SCUF recognizing and fully leaning into that with the six new colors.
Easy swap
Swapping out the faceplates is super easy. You just slide your nail under the attached faceplate and it lifts off. Then you just swap in the new faceplate. It’s done within seconds and no special tools or more intrusive methods are needed.
In use, the new faceplates feel distinctly SCUF in texture and quality. They are just as good as ever and match closely with the official Xbox (and presumably PlayStation, but I’ve not yet got my hands on the Reflex pad) materials.
Can’t be bought separately?
While it’s easy to find the SS22 choices when buying a new controller outright, I’m struggling to find the product pages to buy the pastel faceplates on their own. There are other faceplates available in the Accessories section, but the pastel options are missing.
When purchased with a new controller, the SS22 options bump up the price by $14.99 for the Reflex and $9.99 for the Instinct. I think that’s a very fair price for these. Hopefully, once they are available to buy individually, the prices are just as appealing.
SCUF Spring/Summer ‘22 Faceplates Review: The final verdict
With the SCUF SS22 faceplates, the prestige third-party custom controller is once again ahead of the curve, providing an on-trend aesthetic upgrade for those aiming to refresh their gamepad’s look, or just to swap it out because the old one is looking a bit gross! Either way, these pastel options are damn nice, with Aqua and Mango being my personal faves.
