Vissles V84 Pro Review: ‘Best budget hotswappable keyboard gets even better’

After falling head over heels in love with the original Vissles V84 back in June, and having used it as my daily driver ever since, I was excited to check out the new “Pro” variant. Compared to the original, the V84 Pro features a new switch type that Vissles is calling the VS II Switch. This new switch combines with the still-low price tag to make it a fantastic budget hotswappable option.

Improved keyswitch

The only difference between the V84 and V84 Pro is the type of keyswitch they use. The V84 (Version 2) uses the VS Switch, which demands 45 grams of force to actuate. The V84 Pro uses the VS II Switch, which requires 52 grams of force to actuate.

The increase in operating force will be a welcome change to those who prefer a heavier switch. While 45 grams is great for super-fast reactions in gaming, it can result in occasional mistyping. For those not used to lighter switches, simply resting fingers on keys can result in enough force to trigger a typo. Therefore, the increase to 52 grams is welcome. It’s enough of a change to help avoid typos, while still keeping things fast for gaming.

The actual color of the keyswitch has changed, too. It’s a minor detail but it does make a difference when viewing the V84 Pro from the side with the detachable frame removed. The original keyswitch has a light blue stem and fully transparent housing. The VS II Switch has a darker teal stem, transparent top housing, and black base.

Vissles V84 Pro Review: The final verdict

With the Vissles V84 Pro, the best budget hotswappable keyboard has just gotten even better. Left stock, it’s a great entry-level keyboard at $99. However, with additional keycaps and some extra lubrication, the board could be a cheap “endgame” for many.
