What If? Episode 8 Review: ‘The absolute best episode so far’

What If? episode 8 is now available to watch on Disney Plus. The penultimate episode focuses on Ultron, exploring what would have happened if he hadn’t been destroyed by the Avengers, and instead managed to acquire the Infinity Stones. Needless to say, there’s a lot of death and destruction in this episode and at a fast pace, too. This makes for an exciting exploration of how powerful Ultron would have been and it is certainly a highlight of the series. Here is the What If? episode 8 review and ending explained.

What If? episode 8 is what I’ve been waiting for! It’s full-throttle from the get-go, showing what a formidable force Ultron would be if the Avengers hadn’t stopped him. Almost every minute of the episode is filled with action and the plot twist makes for an incredible final fight sequence. I can’t wait for the final episode.

The episode starts with Black Widow and Hawkeye fighting to survive against an army of Ultron bots. Despite their efforts, Ultron manages to launch nukes across the Earth, destroying all life and achieving peace. He then effortlessly acquires the Infinity Stones and proceeds to wreak havoc on other planets.

With his mission accomplished, he then looks to the multiverse. This starts a sequence that will go down as the best moment of the series, unless the finale can pull off something even better.

Seeing just how powerful Ultron is when equipped with the Infinity Stones is a real treat. The destruction and chaos he causes is a visual feast, with the animated style really coming into its own here. It has always been solid, but episode 8 is the highlight.

After a rollercoaster of quality with the previous seven episodes, it’s great to finally see an almost perfect What If? episode. This is a must-watch, for sure!

At the end of What If? episode 8, the Watcher has been defeated by Ultron and flees. With Ultron becoming too powerful, the Watcher must finally involve himself and interact with the remaining heroes. He appears to the dark version of Doctor Strange and thus begins the recruitment of the Guardians of the Multiverse.

Ultron becomes so powerful that he is able to see the Watcher. This is unprecedented and, though the Watcher can see everything that has happened and will ever happened, he didn’t see this. The fear in the Watcher’s voice is unsettling and shows just how powerful Ultron has become.

In the final episode, viewers can expect to see the Watcher gathering all members of the Guardians of the Multiverse for one final battle against Ultron. Expect to see T’Challa as Star-Lord, Gamora, Thor, Doctor Strange, Black Widow, and Captain Carter for the final fight. Perhaps some other familiar faces will pop up, too!

As Ultron said, “Anything is possible in the Multiverse.” It’s possible that we’ll see characters from other franchises! Maybe we’ll see some other Disney faces popping up to make the final moments truly memorable.

What If? Episode 8 Review: The final verdict

What If? episode 8 is the best episode so far. It’s exactly what I was hoping for when I heard about the “What If?” series. It’s a terrifying realization of what could have happened to the world if the Avengers had lost against Ultron. The odds are made clear and rewatching Age of Ultron will have even more impact.

It’s unfortunate that it’s taken this long to get a fantastic episode. Better late than never, however! Go ahead and watch it, even if you haven’t seen the previous seven.
