What If? episode 7 is now available on Disney Plus. The new episode focuses on Thor, but this is a version who was brought up as an only child. Without Loki to help shape his childhood, this version of Thor is big into parties and doesn’t accept responsibility for his actions. His path still leads to Earth, but his arrival there is quite different. With that said, the end result is the same, meaning this is yet another episode that retreads old ground, but at least the twist ending saves it. What If? episode 7 review
What If? episode 7 is rapid in pace, which is a common trait for the series. With less than 30 minutes to blast through an episode, the breakneck pace is justified, yet still a tad jarring. This time around, however, not much actually happens.
Episode seven explores an irresponsible Thor who parties so hard that he has the potential to destroy worlds. Jane Foster notices this and contacts SHIELD, who then contacts Captain Marvel. The fights between Thor and Captain Marvel are fun, and the party scenes are pretty hilarious, but the plot is ultimately too simple.
Jane Foster’s role is almost identical, which is a shame when you consider the potential for references to her upcoming role as a new version of Thor.
Thankfully, the ending teases upcoming events that will surely take the show in a wild direction. That’s the saving grace of episode 7, elevating it to a higher spot as one of the best episodes. Without that ending though, all but the most diehard Thor fans could happily skip it.
What If? episode 7 ending explained
What If? episode 7 ends with the appearance of Vision as Ultron, armed with all Infinity Stones.
Thor and Jane Foster agree to go on a date, but just as Thor is walking away with a smile on his face, a squad of Ultron robots appears. The leader’s helmet opens and it’s revealed to be Vision. This character is armed with all Infinity Stones, making him an incredibly powerful force.
The Watcher appears surprised by the sudden appearance of this villain, which is curious. He is alarmed, which potentially hints at him finally stepping in and intervening. All this time, he’s grown more restless, almost as though he’s about to step in and do something. Perhaps it will be this Vision/Ultron combination that finally causes him to make a move.
It’s expected that this Watcher will be responsible for bringing all heroes together in the finale, as a group of Guardians of the Multiverse. However, that’s yet to be confirmed.
What If? Episode 7 Review: The final verdict
What If? episode 7 mostly retreads the same story of the original Thor movie, only with more partying. There are references to characters that diehard fans will love, but this is mostly a tame variant of the story that we’ve already been told.
The ending is a must-watch, at least, as it clearly links into future events of the What If? series.
