News broke this week that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining the cast of The Boys season 4, in a recurring but currently undisclosed role. The job sees him reunited with showrunner Eric Kripke, who worked as the boss on CW series Supernatural in which Morgan also starred. Fans are excited to hear that the Walking Dead actor has signed up for The Boys’ next season, but exactly who will he be playing? We take a look at some of the possible outcomes…

Those who loved Supernatural will of course be hoping Morgan steps into the shoes of Soldier Boy’s (Jensen Ackles) father, after he played the Winchester patriarch in the show, to Ackles’ Dean and his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki). While this isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility, Soldier Boy’s age likely means that this isn’t the path the show will go down, unless via flashback. There are however, a handful of other options on the table.
Sticking with the father theme, Starlight aka Annie’s dad hasn’t yet been introduced or even mentioned throughout the Prime Video series. The obvious assumption is that he left the family either before Annie was born, or shortly into her life. Having never spoken a word about him, their relationship would be a fractured one at best, if he did make a surprise appearance. Having gone very public with her attack on the Seven however, it could be exactly what is needed to bring him out of the shadows.
Then there’s Mister Marathon. This former member of the Seven was killed in the comic book series, but only fleeting mentions of his name have been given in the TV show. It was confirmed he was still alive after a race against his Seven team replacement A-Train was canceled. Seeing Morgan as a Supe, albeit one with abilities similar to a character we’ve already got in the show, would be a real treat. The Walking Dead viewers have seen just how well the actor portrays a man drunk on power in Negan; it’s certainly something he could bring to the table in The Boys.
Of course, Morgan could also just be playing a completely original character. The Boys TV series hasn’t ever shied away from bringing new names into the fold, with Translucent created specifically for the show. Whichever role he does take on, we’re sure he’s going to be making headlines for his performance. He’s one of the most sought-after names in all of Hollywood right now.
