Does James Bond die in No Time To Die’s ending?

Does James Bond Die

Daniel Craig’s James Bond dies at the end of No Time To Die. The ending is completely unambiguous about this fact. He is shot and bleeding out after his fight with the villain Safin, and with no other support left on the island, Bond is facing a death similar to Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) earlier on in the movie. However, he has already called in an airstrike on Safin’s base, and now has no way of escaping the island before the missiles hit. He stands on top of the base and gets hit by the explosion.

James Bond Death Explained: Why did 007 have to die?

James Bond had to die because he was infected with the version of the Heracles nanobot virus designed to target Madeleine Swann, her daughter, and anyone in her family. Q assures Bond that the virus is permanent, and it’s not as simple as Bond not seeing them again — anything or anyone he touches becomes infected, so eventually it will spread and kill Madeleine and her daughter. Bond knows that the only way to ensure their survival is for him to die.

In the real world, No Time To Die is Daniel Craig’s last outing as James Bond, so the producers had a choice of either just having the character carry on like normal — like previous Bond actors — or kill the character without ambiguity, to make audiences aware Craig wasn’t coming back. They chose the latter.

For more on James Bond, there’s a leak of a remastered version of the greatest 007 game of all time out there, and the creators of Hitman are working on a new Bond game that will hopefully challenge GoldenEye for that title.
