Spider-Man: Miles Morales might not be a proper sequel but it is a “full story arc” like Uncharted: Lost Legacy, developer Insomniac Games has revealed. Fans had questioned if the new game would be similar in scope to the PS4 exclusive, but while it might not be Spider-Man 2, it will be a substantial standalone experience.
Insomniac has shared more details about the game since its announcement at the PS5 reveal event, sharing how the next chapter for its take on Spider-Man will take advantage of the next-gen console’s technology. This will include instant loading, 3D audio, ray-tracing, and an updated city with refreshed assets that will allow players to “feel things in a whole new way.”
According to a new blog post, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will see Miles taking over from Peter Parker a year after the events of the first game. It will feature new villains and set-pieces along with unique quests throughout its New York setting, as players experience Miles’ origin story.

The one big announcement was that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be comparable in size to Lost Legacy, which takes roughly 10 hours to beat and can even take up to double that for completionists.
“We know a lot of you want to know how big this game is,” said Creative Director Brian Horton. “Our team at Insomniac has been working incredibly hard to bring you a fantastic Miles Morales adventure since we concluded development on Marvel’s Spider-Man. You’ll experience a full story arc with Miles, one that’s more akin to a game like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in terms of overall scope. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an important, heartfelt, emotional and essential experience to expanding the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe. And we hope it will be for you as well.”
While it’s unclear if this “overall scope” means that it will be similar in length to Lost Legacy, it does give us an idea of how much will be packed into this standalone game. The original Spider-Man took around 20 hours to beat, so it won’t be the true sequel many will have been hoping for, though it should still give fans plenty to do.
