Octopath Traveler demo

This Week’s Game Releases: Octopath Traveler, Captain Toad, and Earthfall

This week’s game releases don’t feature too many big names, though the launch of Octopath Traveler will certainly brighten up the lives of a few Nintendo Switch owners. July is typically a dry spell for the games industry, with most developers leaving their heaviest hitters until later in the year. However, there are still some good games to enjoy over the next seven days.

Check out this week’s new game releases below:

Octopath Traveler (July 13th)

Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler is Square Enix’s latest JRPG, offering a heavily stylized 2.5D adventure that is set to appeal to fans of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Early impressions of the game have been good, with critics stating that it introduces a number of changes to the well-established JRPG formula. It looks like a meaty game for players to sink their teeth into, and those who pick it up on the Nintendo Switch will certainly get a lot of bang for their buck.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (July 13th)

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was a little Wii U oddity, and while it’s certainly a niche release, Nintendo is looking to capitalize on the hungry Switch player base by releasing a remastered version of the game on the handheld console. There will be some new stages in the Switch release of Captain Toad, including the above Super Mario Odyssey level, so if you’re into your puzzle games and you missed this the first time around then you should consider picking it up.

Earthfall (July 13th)

For those longing for Left 4 Dead 3Earthfall looks to fill in the gap until Valve finally decides to release a sequel. Releasing on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Earthfall is a four-player co-operative shooter in which players must fend off the alien hordes. It’s been a little while since we’ve had a decent co-op shooter pop up, so Earthfall will hopefully tick the right boxes.
