What Are We Playing? July 4th, 2012

I know many of you are from Canada, or Latin America, or England, or apparently Kenya because there's a ton of Kenyans listening to GameRevolution Radio. But we're from America, colloquially known as "'Merica." Only 'Mericans can call it that, so don't go trying MattAY, you red coat bastard!

Today is July 4th, so let's see what the GameRevolution staff is doing with the time off:

Daniel Bischoff:

I'll be playing some games today, but almost entirely of the portable variety. Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy will provide the soundtrack, Pocket Planes will provide the distraction, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty will be… providing… the long cutscenes about shady government organizations. If I do hop on the consoles, it'll be for brief bouts of Battlefield 3 or something else bite-sized.

Nick Tan:

If a nearby community event has its way, Blake Peterson and I (and perhaps Jessica) will be eating hot dogs, hamburgers, and all sorts of yummy American meatstuffs. Why does cancer taste so awesome? Otherwise, I'll likely be playing The World Ends With You. I don't think I'll be able to Mingle with anybody since the game is almost four years old (gosh, how the time flies), but it was one of those games that I played all the way through so quickly that I didn't absorb the story thoroughly enough. According to my female nerdy friend, that's blasphemy.

If I want to be patriotic, though, I guess playing Captain America in anything will do. Maybe even Fantavision for the fireworks.

Keri Honea:

Of course I will be playing games today. This stack of shame isn't going to play itself! Not that I'm, uh, playing anything from my stack of shame this week, but that's besides the point. I'll most likely be playing lots of LEGO Batman 2, as that's the only game I can really play in front of my son. I'm really disappointed in LEGO Batman 2 as the voice acting really detracts from the clever jokes LEGO games are infamous for making, but hey, it's an easy platinum trophy, right? The main event, though, is Spec Ops: The Line. I haven't enjoyed a third-person shooter this much since the last Gears of War. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to celebrate America's freedom than by playing a military shooter…where I kill…rogue Americans and, um, confused Emirate civilians. If I'm forced to get off the consoles for being a bad mom or something, I'll dig out my 3DS and play some more Dragon Quest VI. I can play that and appear interested in what my son is coloring.

Alex Osborn:

Aside from sleeping in and listening to a healthy dose of gaming podcasts, I'll probably kick back and play a little Killzone 3 multiplayer before I rage quit after getting pummeled online. The rest of the day will likely be spent grilling up grub and searching the web for gaming news despite the fact that there likely won't be much thanks to the holiday. Oh and I'll try to squeeze some exercise time in there, maybe go for a run or something. Fireworks aren't my thing.

Jonathan Leack:

To celebrate our independence in the most American way possible I'm going to be slaughtering international foes in Dota 2 and StarCraft II. South Korea better watch out now that I have this new gaming mouse. I'll also be playing some The Secret World where I'll be wearing a themed red, white, and blue outfit while I parade around with my assault rifle. LONG LIVE FREEDOM!

But, what are you playing today?
