Xbox App Now Allows Game Streaming via Amazon Fire TV

The Xbox app presents a number of uses that go beyond simply gaming through the Microsoft console. Now, for those who would like to experience games through streaming, Xbox has made it possible to do so on the app thanks to Amazon Fire TV compatibility.

No Xbox to play on? No worries

An announcement was made recently, saying that Xbox Gaming can now be done “directly from the Xbox app,” which allows you to stream games through an Amazon Fire-enabled device.

Essentially, we’ve reached the age where you no longer need physical hardware – in this case an Xbox Series X|S – in order to carry on gaming. All you need is a Fire TV, a Game Pass subscription, and a compatible controller.

Specifically, you will need Game Pass Ultimate in order to qualify for the streaming service. If you haven’t had Ultimate before, you can get it on a trial period, costing $1 for the first 14 days. After that, it’ll set you back $16.99, but it does come with multiple benefits, including an EA Play membership.

What’s interesting about this is that you don’t have to have an Xbox controller in order to stream through your Fire TV device. According to details on the website, it will take other peripherals, including PlayStation controllers.

Additionally, the Xbox app will also work on Samsung 2020, Samsung 2022, and other select Samsung Smart TVs. Of course, as this is a streaming service, you’ll also need high-speed internet with at least 20Mbps download speeds.

It definitely feels like we’ve entered the future of modern gaming. While the idea of playing without having to use a console sounds like the next step in the industry, some may be more critical about the way the industry has shifted towards a heavy subscription business model.

In any case, the Xbox hardware is still around for now, but for those who don’t want to fork over the money for the system itself, streaming directly from the Xbox app to their Amazon Fire TV might be the next best thing.
