Summer Games Done Quick Once Again Raises Millions for Charity

Summer Games Done Quick 2024 has just ended, and the event has once again shown how effective it is at raising money for a good cause. Speedrunners and fans of speedrunning have come together to watch all manner of games being played while also offering up donations.

Summer Games Done Quick does it again

According to a recent post on X, Summer Games Done Quick 2024 has raised a total of $2,546,290, with the proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders. However, as noted by a live tracker, this has gone up even more since the post went live, with the latest figures showing it at $2,548,600.

In any case, it represents a phenomenal achievement for SGDQ with the event running from June 30 to July 7.

Similar to other marathons under the Games Done Quick umbrella, SGDQ challenges players – many of whom have been speedrunning for years – to complete games in as quick a time as possible. During these runs, viewers are invited to send in charitable donations, often with small incentives, such as getting to choose what game will be played next.

This year’s sum total beats Summer Games Done Quick 2023, which raised $2,267,907 last summer, according to Wikipedia. The event has been running for 13 years, with 2015 representing the first time SGDQ managed to raise over a million dollars.

As always, there were plenty of games and content creators involved in the marathon, with notable runs from the likes of Super Mario 64, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Silent Hill, Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Although Summer Games Done Quick 2024 is now over, those who still have a hankering for some speedrunning will be able to check out Frame Fatales, which begins August 18, so you don’t have long to wait until the next marathon event.
