Resident Evil PC Rerelease Rated for Survival Horror Classic

When Resident Evil on PC was launched way back in 1996, nobody could have predicted just how much of an impact it would have. Going on to become one of the most influential survival horror games of all time, it looks as though this classic will be getting a rerelease, possibly via Steam.

What is known about the new Resident Evil PC port?

As noted by Gematsu over on X, the original Resident Evil game has been rated by PEGI – the Pan-European Game Information – as recently as today. In particular, the game has been rated for PC in Europe, suggesting a rerelease of Capcom’s legendary title is on the horizon.

Currently, not much is known about what this rerelease will feature; whether it will just be a port of the 1996 game or a special release with bonus content. The information from the PEGI website simply outlines what RE is about and has rated it 18 for “depictions of graphic violence to human characters.”

It’s also not mentioned which storefronts will get the new release. Obviously, Resident Evil on Steam would be what most players would want, given its dominance of the PC market. The platform itself already hosts many of the games from the series, including the 2002 remake.

It’s also quite strange that, given how popular the franchise is, there hasn’t been a Resident Evil PC port for the modern age. Back in 1996, the game was released on PlayStation before moving over to Windows machines in Japan.

It would eventually come to home computers in North America in the latter parts of 1997, with a SEGA Saturn version following not long after. The last port of the game was to the Nintendo DS back in 2006, so it feels like it’s due for a rerelease.

As of now, the new rating on the PEGI website shows that we’re almost certainly getting a Resident Evil PC port once again, after years of it being difficult to get hold of.
