Quake 2 remaster: the player fires chaingun bullets at an advancing Berserker.

Nightdive Studios Is Teasing Another Remaster, Possibly The Thing

Nightdive Studios has made a name for itself in delivering some high-quality remasters of classic games, and there’s more on the horizon. While it’s difficult to know exactly what’s being planned at this stage, the developer is leaving a tasty morsel of a tease for us to chew over.

From strength to strength

Just a few months after the release of the Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster, Nightdive Studios is hinting at another project. A recent post on X invites people to “guess the game we’ll be announcing,” along with a gruesome image of a twisted face.

We’re not actually told what’s coming from the team, but all will be revealed at IGN Live, which is scheduled to go ahead on June 7. However, users on X have been suggesting their own theories, and it looks like the PC, PS2, and Xbox adaptation of John Carpenter’s iconic film The Thing is the favorite.

The original game came out in 2002 and combined third-person shooting with horror elements similar to its movie counterpart. It was fairly well received at the time, with Metacritic registering a review score of 78 for the PlayStation 2 port.

However, we can’t be certain this is what Nightdive will be tackling next, but it’s bound to get a lot of fans excited for what the developer has in-store. Other theories bandied around include remasters of Turok Evolution and, almost certainly jokingly, Destiny 2’s The Final Shape DLC.

Along with Dark Forces, the team was also responsible for giving a bit of spit polish to both Quake and Quake 2, improving the visuals, adding in new content, and implementing some quality-of-life changes.

Nightdive Studios was also responsible for the full remake of the cult sci-fi hit System Shock, which released last year. The developer is also doing a remaster of the follow-up – System Shock 2 – as well as a modern take on the arguably underrated 2000 FPS SiN.
