Remedy Says Control 2, Max Payne Remakes to Enter ‘Next Stages of Development’ This Year

Remedy Entertainment is still riding the success of Alan Wake 2, but the Finnish developer says it’s making headway on future projects. Going forward, the studio is anticipating Control 2, Condor, and the upcoming Max Payne remakes to go to the next stages of development sometime this year.

Company notes a drop in revenue

In a recent report from Gamesindustry.biz, Remedy has published its financial results for 2023, showing a drop in revenue to the tune of 22.2%. CEO Tero Virtala has attributed this to “increased investment” in future projects.

Despite this, sales of Alan Wake 2 have recouped a “significant part of the investments made by Epic Games Publishing,” according to Virtala. It seems there are plans to grow the likes of Control and Alan Wake into “franchises that have high brand recognition.”

Going forward, Remedy’s CEO expects upcoming projects to progress further. In particular, Condor, Control 2, and the remake of both Max Payne and Max Payne 2 will “advance to the next stages of development during the first half of 2024.”

There hasn’t been a Max Payne installment since Rockstar‘s take on the series back in 2012. With the ongoing interest in reimaginings and modern remakes of classic games, many will be looking forward to a fresh iteration of the gritty, noir franchise.

As for Control, the original was released in 2019, with the studio confirming at the end of 2022 that a sequel was in development. We don’t have a release date for Control 2, Max Payne, Condor, or any other Remedy Entertainment project, but there’s hope that future releases will give the company a revenue boost.
