Since releasing in February, Helldivers 2 has been a tremendous success for Arrowhead Game Studios. However, it’s come to the attention of the company’s CEO that rumors have been flying about a possible acquisition. As such, a response has been issued.
Plus, new patch rolls out for PC and PS5
Over on X, there’s been speculation that the Helldivers 2 developer has been brought out by publisher Sony. This has prompted the game’s director, Johan Pilestedt, to take to the social media platform to dispel any rumors.
In a response to a user, Pilestedt said the news was “fake” unless that the director had somehow “missed something.”
This stems from a now–deleted rumor from false scoopster account Haothors, which stated that Sony buying out Arrowhead would be announced soon. Pilestedt goes one step further by saying that the logo used in the post that links to the rumor is from 2008, further questioning the legitimacy of the speculation.
Helldivers 2 has been hugely popular on both PC and PS5 this past month. It’s also recently been revealed that the latest patch for both versions of the game has started rolling out. This new update introduces “planetary hazards, balancing updates, and more,” according to a post on the official X account.
At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 is the most played game on Steam, even beating out the Steam Deck which typically remains steadfast at the top. Over 140,000 players are engaged with the sequel, according to the most recent data, with that number peaking at over 458,000 less than two weeks ago.
