Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is looking to have quite the successful launch, as pre-order numbers are incredibly high for the Nintendo fighter, outpacing Mario Kart 8.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime discussed the promising pre-order data, saying, "The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year. Our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic."
Nintendo's tablet-centric console certainly needs a major hit to help spur greater interest among consumers, as Wii U hardware sales haven't been particularly incredible for the Big N ever since the system first launched. That said, there's reason to hope the tide will finally turn this holiday season when Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launches in less than two weeks.
