Hacker Group Leaks 98% of Insomniac Files and Personal Documents

Recently, Insomniac Games suffered a ransomware attack by a group of hackers, revealing leaked images from Marvel’s Wolverine. Now, it appears the group has followed through on additional threats and has released a lot more data and private documents.

Over 1.3 million files in total

The report comes from Cyber Daily – an Australian site specializing in tech and cyber news – which says that a gang known as Rhysida has leaked around 1.67 terabytes worth of information from Insomniac‘s servers. This equates to 98% of all information that has now been hacked and leaked.

Of the data that’s been made available, files from Spider-Man 2, as well as assets from the aforementioned Wolverine game, have apparently surfaced. The leak shows information that says the unreleased Marvel title will be released in September 2025.

On top of that, it’s also been reported that employee details are also part of the leak, which includes HR documents, content from some of the developer’s PCs, and screenshots from the studio’s Slack channel.

Speaking to Cyber Daily, a spokesperson for Rhysida said developers like Insomniac are an “easy target.” The email sent to the source says the hackers have been motivated purely by money, with the group asking for $2 million prior to the data being leaked.

Sony has launched an investigation, but Rhysida has said “it would be better in the backyard.” Insomniac Games has yet to comment on these developments at the time of writing. The studio is currently looking to release the next update for Spider-Man 2 in early 2024.
