GameStop to Remain Closed on Thanksgiving

Major games retailer GameStop, known for offering consumers the ability to trade and sell used games for cash or credit, will close and remain closed on Thanksgiving. More specifically, 6,600 stores throughout the regions GameStop serves will be closed for the holiday and executives are encouraging consumers to instead join forces with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in their area to "Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not."

GameRevolution just finished a major push for Extra Life's charitable drive to generate funds for the Children's Miracle Network hospitals both in the bay area and beyond, so I'd say this would be a good way to spend the day before stuffing and turkey and cranberry sauce and gravy and all of the Thanksgiving trimmings get in the way.

GameStop offered this statement regarding its plans to close on the holiday before everyone goes insane for deals that they may or may not need to trample another human being for:

At GameStop we often use the phrase ‘protect the family’ in reference to our business. A large part of what that means to us is to not open any of our GameStop, SimplyMac, Spring Mobile or Cricket Wireless U.S. locations on Thanksgiving Day out of respect for our store associates and their families and friends. We believe it’s the right decision not only for our employees, but also for our customers. Enjoy this time with your loved ones and we’ll see you on Black Friday. GameStop stores will be opening at midnight on Black Friday, Nov. 28.

Stores will open at midnight on Black Friday, November 28th, meaning any employees who actually take the day to enjoy family, food, and possibly charitable giving, will be punished by long lines and low, low, prices on video games that really aren't that much lower and there are probably better deals at the department stores anyway.
