Baldur’s Gate 3 is enjoying a very healthy start on PC as it is now the second biggest game launch on Steam in 2023 so far.
Despite already being available in Early Access for several years, the full launch was not subdued in the slightest. A whopping 472,000 players were on Baldur’s Gate 3 on its Thursday launch peak according to SteamDB.
Baldur’s Gate 3 story sees you abducted, infected, and lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.
What’s The Biggest Steam Launch of 2023 So Far?
The Baldur’s Gate 3 Steam launch was good, but it was no match for the numbers set earlier in 2023 by Hogwarts Legacy. The Avalanche title managed to have a concurrent player count of 879,308 for its own launch. It’s still a very impressive number, though.
The game spent six years in development, including its Early Access period, and was developed by Larian Studios, the team behind the revered RPG series Divinity: Original Sin. Baldur’s Gate 3 has been receiving high praise for its player freedom and caused more than a few nervous gulps at its enormous playtime. The general consensus seems to be very positive so far.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC via Steam now. It will come to PS5 on September 6. An Xbox Series X|S version will arrive later due to technical limitations of the Series S preventing co-op play.
