Capcom Updates Platinum List, Monster Hunter & RE Top Best-Selling Games

Capcom is easily one of the biggest video game companies in the world, and a recent update to its Platinum List shows just how many millions the developer’s biggest franchises have sold worldwide.

Monster Hunter reigns supreme

Over on the Capcom website, you can see the top 114 games from the Japanese giant that have shifted over a million units as of June 2023.

Right at the top of the list sits Monster Hunter: World, comfortable in its number one spot with 19 million copies sold since the game was released in 2018. Right below that is Monster Hunter Rise, with a staggering 13.20 million, proving just how enormous this IP is on the whole.

We begin to see Resident Evil games cropping up from position three onwards. The remake of Resident Evil 2 has, according to this chart, sold 12.60 million copies across a range of systems since 2019, while Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is just behind that with 12.40 million and is sitting pretty at number four.

As we move down the list, the sales units obviously become smaller, but are still hugely impressive for any developer, let alone Capcom.

The majority of the top section of this updated chart is dominated by Monster Hunter and RE, though there are some other notable entries here, including Street Fighter 5 at position 11 and the Dead Rising games a bit lower down.

Interestingly, Street Fighter 2, which was released in 1992, is at the number 12 spot, having sold 6.30 million copies. This puts it ahead of the original 1998 RE2 and even Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

It’s impressive to see Capcom still making a huge impact on the video game industry after all these years. Beginning life in 1979, it’s difficult to imagine any other company not only surviving in this industry but being one of the market’s major players.
