Payday 3 Will Come With Controversial Denuvo DRM

In a move that’s perhaps not too surprising for this modern gaming era, Payday 3 will come with Denuvo‘s anti-cheat software. Despite the tech being implemented to prevent tampering and hacking, many consider this form of DRM to be a burden on games.

Still as unpopular as ever

Thanks to a recent report from DSO Gaming, we can see that Payday 3 will be using Denuvo on the PC version of the game. The Steam page clearly spells out in black and white that Deep Silver’s heist FPS will feature the third-party software.

It’s all too common these days for AAA releases to have DRM in some form or another. It’s understandable that publishers and developers want to protect their IPs, but these anti-piracy efforts often come with some drawbacks, especially when it comes to Denuvo.

There have been numerous accounts of the software causing performance issues on games. An infamous example comes from Deathloop, which saw the Arkane Studios title getting review bombed due to stuttering problems on PC that were allegedly caused by Denuvo.

Some publishers have even gone to the trouble of removing DRM post-launch, and modders have been known to unofficially remove it, with reports indicating that this has seen a game’s performance improve.

Hopefully, Denuvo won’t have any effect on how well Payday 3 runs, but its inclusion is bound to be a worry for some.

That aside, the third entry in the bank robber simulation series is being highly anticipated, especially seeing as there seems to be more stealth encouragement in this entry.

Payday 3 will release on September 21 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
