Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Leak Leaker Nintendo Discord

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Leak Causes Nintendo to Send DMCA Subpeona to Discord

A recent Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak of the official art book has caused Nintendo to pursue legal action against Discord to discover the identity of the leaker. On February 20, 2023, the full 200-page “artbook” was leaked online, sharing numerous details of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda game. Then about six weeks later on April 4, Nintendo of America sent a DMCA subpeona to a California court to force Discord to reveal the personal information of the leaker.

Nintendo wants the leaker’s name, address, email, and telephone number

This DMCA subpeona is a follow-up to a DMCA notice Nintendo sent to Discord on February 21, one day after the leak was found on a channel called “Tears of the Kingdom Official Discord Server.”

Discord promptly took down various images and links pertaining to the leak, but members were still circulating the links hours later, causing Nintendo to send a request for “immediate review and takedown” of the channel. Specifically, the company says that certain members were given the role of “The PDF Pirate” which it says “identifies them as a source for PDF files of the infringing art book images.” It also objected to the channel using “official” in its title as it was “not operated or authorized by Nintendo.”

In the April 4 DCMA subpeona, as revealed by TorrentFreak, Nintendo of America is requesting that Discord disclose the identity of the user Julien#2743, including the apparent leaker’s name, address, email address, and telephone number. The company says that any information obtained on this “will be used only for the purposes of protecting the rights granted to NoA under the Copyright Act.”

It was revealed in March that the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Special Edition would include a bonus spoon and that weapon durability was confirmed in the game.
