Sony Hopes to K.O. the Competition, Buys Sucker Punch Productions

If you're a developer working almost exclusively for Sony, then chances are they're eyeing you. Not just to make sure your game is going to sell their consoles, but because they want to buy you outright.

In recent weeks, Sony purchased Invizimals dev and augmented reality geniuses, Novarama. Last year they picked up LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule. Granted, these developers were producing content exclusively for Sony consoles, but Sony wanted to make sure they didn't take a page from Insomniac Games and go multiplatform. After all, a console is only as good as its exclusive games and features.

The latest developer to be scooped up by the video game giant is inFamous and Sly Cooper devs, Sucker Punch Productions. This comes less than two months after Sucker Punch released the highly successful PS3 exclusive, inFamous 2.

We suppose Sony wanted to keep this deal under wraps; that way they could surprise the competition with a… Sucker Punch. Lame pun, I know. Sometimes I just have to get that shit out of my system so I can move on.
