Overwatch 2 Queue Times

Overwatch 2 Queue Times Addressed by Blizzard

Official moderators on the Overwatch Reddit have explained some of the causes behind the long Overwatch 2 queue times, in addition to server crashes and general instability. Based on technical issues alone, the game has not had a successful launch with players being unable to log in, having account merges not work, and encountering annoying LC-208 errors after waiting in a queue for thirty minutes or more. Suffice it to say, it’s been a hot mess.

Long Overwatch 2 queue times are partly due to intentional throttling

Blizzard notes on Reddit that the player database for Overwatch 2 is being overloaded, causing backups in the login system that can lead to players being dropped from queues. The game’s developers and engineers are attempting to “add nodes to ease the pressure on the player database,” but doing so “adds pressure to an already stressed system.” As this happens, players will likely experience even longer queues:

“We are also currently throttling queues in order to protect the player database as much as we can while we scale—this feels bad in the short-term, but once it’s done, will greatly improve the experience for players across multiple fronts moving forward.”

The post also reveals that players may also see a longer queue length now that Blizzard has combined two queues for players together, one for Battle.net and the other for Overwatch 2. This is why some players might have been confused by the queue number suddenly jumping higher, but that should no longer be a concern.
